comments: Are you a frequent g mail geek?
If so, the google g mail notifier is just for you.
This program plays your default mail sound, whenever you have new email.
I am givving this program a 3 star rating, because one of the things I'd like to see is that the program could take you to the m.gmail.com sight, instead of the regular one.
I should say, though, this program comes in handy, and is better than nothing.
To download this free program, it requires you to have a gmail account.

comments: while this program works sighted people have much more access to it. they can see who sent the message and with what subject. there are other ree alternatives that do the same thing but better giving you more info.

comments: I just tried downloading this free program to see if it would work with my work email account. Well, I wasn't even able to sign in properly because, you guessed it! There is a CAPTCHA that has to be bypassed. This is one of those visual verification thingies, and even the audio CAPTCHA isn't sufficient enough because I am unsure of which words to type etc. Hence I am giving this program only 1 star. It's probably a great little program once you're signed in properly and able to download and use it. I'm happy to say, however, that my work email account was created for me by someone who is fully-sighted, and I therefore don't have anything to do with the annoying verification.

comments: This morning when I was checking my work email, I found a link to the Gmail Notifier at the bottom of my email page. So I clicked on the link and read the instructions, and then clicked the Download button. The download and installation went just fine. However, at the end of the installation I was taken to a page in Firefox with a security warning that System Access didn't read. So I got out of the warning, rebooted my system, and turned on NVDA. It read the warning just fine, but I was hit with a CAPTCHA which did have an audio alternative but I'm not a fan of those either. So I had a co-worker who is fully-sighted come up and take a look. What we discovered was that the Gmail Notifier won't yet work on Gmail subdomains and we have one of those. I am giving the Gmail Notifier 4 stars this time because although I was able to download and install it just fine, the CAPTCHA is still there. Hopefully once this is out of beta, it will work with subdomains of Gmail.
