comments: Download Express is a program written by a company called meta products. It is free for noncommercial use.

This program is used to speed up downloads. I have noticed while testing the program that download express does in fact download files faster than the download tool built into Internet Explorer. It is important to note that download express works primarily with Internet Explorer.

The accessibility is excellent. The program is extremely simple to install and configure. In addition, if you do not want download express to launch for a certain file, it is easy to avoid this.

For example, let's say you are on a link to an audio file you want to play with windows media player. Simply hold down the shift key while pressing enter on the link for which you do not want download express to run. Windows will then either present the default internet explorer download dialog or, as in our example, launch the appropriate player for listening to an audio file.
The only time when this method will not work is for audio embedded in web pages. That is, audio that plays without bringing up the player to be used. An example of a web page with embedded audio is one which plays real audio without bringing up a real player window.
You may download download express by going to
www.whitestick.co.uk
simply select the "downloads" link, then the link labeled "download express 1.7".

Overall, this is an excellent program and a welcome addition to the collection of freeware programs on my computer

comments: I was impressed with download express. As the name suggests, the program is a tool to download files more faster. It's a replacement program for IE's download tool. Simply press enter on a download link or the file itself and you are on the road! It shows current percentage of a download. Unlike IE, it presents file size as bytes instead of kilobytes. It also reports precisely how much data is now being transferred per second. The only drawback is that some graphics are not labeled and that should be some configuring done so it'll be more accessible. I would recommend to people who download materials frequently and need to take advantage of extra speed.

comments: seeing the previous reviews were kind of old and not included firefox I think it might be time for a fresh look.
the program, as the prior reviews said, is very accessible and indeed does its job.
when using firefox on clicking a file link, the firefox's download dialog appears with the familiar group of radio buttons, with a new one, "download with download express" being added. note this is not selected by the default so you might have to arrow to it!
up on pressing enter your screen reader might report the progress window at 0 but then a standard save as dialog will be opened and focused, and the last path you saved in will be selected by default and the name will be prefilled as you'd expect.
up on dismissing that you will find your self on a trackbar. with window-eyes it will be reported as a 3 unit one, with jaws it will be a 0/33/66/100 percent slider. what this does is it controls how much accelerating the software should do. the max setting which is the default will make it squeeze out as much as possible and I do recommend this!
tabbing around you will find a pause button, a close this dialog after the download completes checkbox, a tab control, and a list dispkaying the progress which I suppose you'll spend your most time on. I'll admmit this program is by far the simpliest to read the download speed and so on. you just arrow through the list. a note that the sizes are expressed in bytes regardless of the actual size. up on a download ending your pc will produce your asterisk sound just as IE would and a few bbuttons will be ungraideed. there will be an open file abutton, an open folder btton, and a restart button. clicking the open file button will automaticaly close the download window efectively getting it out of the way.
the program does have a few preferences and a download list as well as some pro features which imho shoulld be free as other download managers offer them out of the box mainly these are shutdown and hangup options.
to get to the "project list" and the preferences find the desktop icon or the start menu folder.
before I go. if you're still not convinced of this working, I was getting a bunch of 100 meg files from archive.org. with ff it was going at 40 kbs and it ended in about 30 mins, while here it accelerated to 100+ kbs and I ended a file in 8 minutes.
hope you enjoyed this!
