comments: Adobe Reader is a required utility for viewing documents distributed in the Portable Document Format (PDF). This program is somewhat accessible thanks to Adobe's stated efferts and configuration files or scripts provided by the developers of modern screen readers such as JAWS and Window-Eyes. The relatively unstructured visual nature of many PDF documents along with the inaccessibility of many Adobe electronic books and other files due to issues such as security lock outs and the provision of documents as pictures of text are factors that significantly detract from the usefulness of this format as a means of accessible information distribution. If you are able to obtain electronic files in only PDF, then you must download and install this program in order to gain access to the information.

comments: After downloading version 7 of this program, I was pleased to note that there is quite a bit more feedback given to the user when a document is first loaded. Adobe has gone to great lengths to let the blind user know when documents have not been properly tagged, thus making them less than desireable in format. I was also pleased to note the significant amount of information regarding accessibility in the program's help system. Download the free program from

comments: This is a program that allow you to view PDF (Portable Document Format) documents. In this version Adobe made efforts to have PDF documents accessible to blind people. I would recommend using left to right configuration, rather than infer order (I found that there are some delays in response from JFW when using infer reading mode.).

comments: Adobe Acrobat Reader is, as others have stated, a program for reading documents written in pdf format. When I first downloaded version 7 of the program from http://www.adobe.com , I had a bit of trouble configuring it to work with the version of JAWS I was using at the time, version 7. However, a friend who is fully sighted was able to help me and I was on my merry way. This version of the Adobe reader is indeed a lot more accessible than previous versions. A lot more information regarding presentation of the document is given to the user, such as format. I am very pleased that Adobe has finally done the right thing.

comments: I have been using version 7 of Adobe Reader for several months and I am very pleased with it.

The feature I like most is an accessibility wizard called the Accessibility Setup Assistant. After you install Adobe, the wizard will pop up and allow you to change Adobe's default settings so that it will work better with screen readers and/or screen magnifiers. You can also access the Accessibility Setup Assistant at any time from the help menu.

The other feature of Adobe Reader 7 that impresses me is the accessibility information in the help file.

I hope that everyone will upgrade to Adobe Reader 7.
